Osmanthus is here to stay

From seasonal release to year-round celebration

Once a fleeting expression of the season, Osmanthus has become something more, a tea to be enjoyed beyond Autumn, and a flavour made for celebration all year round.

Rooted in centuries of tradition, Osmanthus blossoms have long been treasured in Chinese tea culture for their delicate fragrance and symbolic meaning. Representing love, prosperity, and moments of togetherness. Today, that same spirit lives on in Saicho Osmanthus Sparkling Tea, a modern interpretation of an ancient craft.

A craft shaped in the mountains

Our Osmanthus begins its journey in the mist-covered mountains of Xianyou County, Fujian. Here, Tie Guan Yin oolong is grown at around 800 metres above sea level, where mineral-rich soil and high altitude create the perfect conditions for depth, balance, and character.

Harvested in Autumn, the leaves are carefully selected at their peak, ready to be transformed through a time-honoured scenting process.

The art of scenting

At dawn, when their fragrance is most intense, fresh osmanthus blossoms are gathered and layered over the oolong leaves in traditional bamboo baskets.

Over 48 hours, the flowers are replaced multiple times, allowing the tea to slowly absorb their soft, golden aroma, building complexity, elegance, and depth with each layer.

This process, refined over generations, is what gives Osmanthus its signature floral character, delicate yet expressive.

From leaf to sparkling tea

Once perfectly scented, the leaves are cold-brewed for 24 hours using English spring water. This gentle method preserves the tea’s natural aromatics, capturing nuances that would otherwise be lost through heat.

Finally, a light carbonation is added, lifting the floral notes and bringing a refined, champagne-like effervescence to the glass.

The result is a sparkling tea with notes of apricot, peach, and soft florals, bright, balanced, and effortlessly elegant.

A new expression of celebration

What began as a seasonal release has quickly become a favourite, embraced for its versatility, its softness, and its ability to elevate any moment.

Osmanthus is no longer just for Autumn. It is a tea for celebrations of every kind, from intimate gatherings to grand occasions, from weddings to everyday rituals.
